MAYBE GOD IS ILL is the 2008 docu-film directed by Franco Brogi Taviani based on the travel-diary written by Walter Veltroni ('Forse Dio è Malato: Diario di Un Viaggio Africano'). It is a testimony of his trip to Africa (Mozambique, Angola, Senegal, Cameroun, Uganda and South Africa), where wars, hunger and Aids generate everyday disasters. Each story is introduced by a song, written for the purpose, and performed by singers of the countries where the documentary is being filmed. The singers appear in the film while they are recording the songs, to testify with their physical presence their personal participation.
This kind of approach – the basic structure of the film - flows parallel to the documentary and fiction story.
Its main purpose is to recount both the tragedy and the hopes of a continent like Africa.
Outstanding vocal performance by Siya Makuzeni (female vocals) and Badara Seck (male vocal).
